Purchase a potted tulip plant with as many closed buds as possible. This will allow the new blooms on the tulips to last for several weeks with the right care.
Place the potted tulip plant in a cool, sunny location. So the tulips last, keep them away from any hot drafts of air from your heater.
Keep the growing medium around the potted tulips moist but not saturated. Don’t allow the medium to dry out.
Add 1 tablespoon of houseplant fertilizer to the tulips when they are flowering. Apply the fertilizer with water.
Allow the tulips to grow until their leaves turn yellow and die back, if you want to plant them outside. Store the tulips in a cool, dry place until the ground is workable. Plant the bulbs in a sunny location at a depth of 6 inches.
