How to Use a Weedeater Strap

Weed eaters, or string trimmers, make fast work of large weeding projects; however, some of these trimmers are quite heavy, up to 15 pounds. If you have a lot of surface area to cover, a strap can make the job a lot easier on your back, even if you have a lighter model. A strap can also make your work more precise. Because you do not have to support the weight of the weed eater with your hand, you have two hands to direct the weed eater.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the strap over your head and place it so that it lies on your left shoulder.

    • 2

Hook the shoulder strap to your trimmer. On most string trimmers, the hook is located on the upper part of the shaft, in between the handle and the engine.

    • 3

Loosen the screw so that the hook slides up and down the shaft.

    • 4

Slide the screw up and down slowly until you find the position where the trimmer is both balanced and barely touching the ground. This is the position in which you will doing your trimming.

    • 5

      Tighten the screw.

    • 6

Move the trimmer back and forth, without the engine running, at the level you will be trimming. Adjust the position of the strap hook if the trimmer is still unbalanced.
