Instructions

  1. General Maintenance

    • 1

Check the air filter before starting the engine. Pull the choke out all the way. Loosen the bolt and remove the cleaner cover and filter. Brush off all dust and inspect for damage.

    • 2

Check for oil discharge from the automatic oiler when the saw is in use. It there is excessive oil being discharged, turn the adjustment screw clockwise to decrease the flow. If not enough oil is being dispensed, turn the screw counter-clockwise to increase the flow.

    • 3

Check the oil strainer periodically for dirt and dust. If the strainer is dirty, wash it in gasoline. Rinse a dirty oil tank with gasoline as well.

    • 4

Check the fuel strainer periodically for dirt and dust. Rinse a dirty strainer and fuel tank with a proper cleaning fluid.

    • 5

Clean the guide bar and the oil holes after every use. Coat the metal parts with light oil.

    • 6

Replace a worn out or damaged sprocket to prevent damage to the chain. Clean the clutch and bar mount area before installing a new sprocket.

    • 7

Replace the spark plug annually, or when needed.

    • 8

Clean the cooling systems by removing the spark plug lead. Remove the two guide-bar cover nuts and the guide bar cover. Remove the 4 recoil starter housing screws and the starter housing and clean with a stiff bristle brush.

    Adjusting the Carburetor

    • 9

Adjust the carburetor by running the engine for a few minutes to get it to its proper operating temperature. Stop the engine and remove the grommet cover over the carburetor needles, which read "h" and "l", for high and low.

    • 10

Turn both needles counter-clockwise to stop them.

    • 11

Start the engine again and turn the idle speed adjustment screw clockwise until the saw chain begins to move. Then turn the screw counter-clockwise until the chain stops. Turn the screw counter-clockwise an additional 1/4 turn.

    • 12

Accelerate to full throttle two to three seconds to clear excess fuel and then return to idle. Accelerate the engine again to full throttle and check for a smooth transition. If the engine stops or stalls after a full warm-up, return it to the dealer for repair.

    Troubleshooting

    • 13

Check the spark plug if the engine is difficult to start. If the plug is okay, check for the clogged fuel pipe or fuel strainer. Also check the carburetor to make certain it is functioning properly.

    • 14

Replace the bearing piston, cylinder and crankshaft, if the engine will not crank at all.

    • 15

Check to make certain fuel mix is correct, if your chain won't cut cleanly. Check for a bad spark plug or for deposits in the combustion chamber.

    • 16

Adjust the chain tension and depth, if the engine speed is adequate but the chain is still not cutting properly. If the chain stops, replace the clutch shoe. Check the chain oil and make certain the chain is properly lubricated.
