The Normal Height of Flagpoles

The normal height of a flagpole depends on the size of the flag you choose to display. According to "Selecting a Flagpole" from the United States Flagstore, there are three key factors in choosing appropriate flagpole heights. "These include your location in the country, the location of the pole on your property, cosmetic preferences including composition of the pole, and how you want your flagpole to blend with its surroundings."
  1. Residential Flagpole

    • The average height of a residential flagpole is 20 feet. At least two feet in addition to the height of the pole needs to cemented into the ground. The appropriate flag size for a 20-foot flagpole is between 3 feet by 5 feet or between 5 feet by 8 feet.

    Commercial Flagpole

    • The normal height of a commercial flagpole is between 20 feet and 80 feet. See the chart below to find the appropriate pole height for your flag size. They will carry flags ranging in size from 5 feet by 8 feet to 20 feet by 30 feet.

    Wind Warning

    • Windy geographical locations can cause some pole heights to be more dangerous than others. Be sure to have a professional mount your flagpole to avoid property damage or personal injury.
