Instructions

    • 1

Rub the area with mineral spirits and a scrub brush if the paint is still wet. You can purchase mineral spirits at a hardware store. Continue to scrub until the paint is completely gone.

    • 2

Scrub the graffiti with a paint remover that contains methylene chloride, the city of Minneapolis recommends on its website. Methylene chloride is a chemical that effectively removes spray paint from most hard surfaces, although it may dissolve plastics. Wear rubber gloves while using substances that contain methylene chloride.

    • 3

Use a pressure washer to blast away graffiti, the city of Las Cruces, New Mexico, recommends on its website. For best results, use a pressure washer that sprays four to eight gallons of water per minute.

    • 4

Scrape paint off a window with a razor blade. To remove marker from glass, hold a rag saturated with paint remover on the graffiti for several minutes then rinse with clean water.

    • 5

Sandblast the surface to remove stubborn graffiti stains on unpainted surfaces as a last resort. Sandblasting is time-consuming and requires extensive cleanup. Additionally, although sandblasting removes the paint or marker, it leaves a thin outline where the graffiti was.
