How to Mix Regular Oil With Gas in a Chain Saw

Although a chainsaw operates like other engines in that it requires fuel, starting is not as simple as pouring in gas and pulling the cord. The fuel for chainsaws is a combination of oil and gas and it is important to get the oil-to-gas ratio correct to avoid damaging the engine of the chainsaw.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any old oil or gas in your fuel can. It is important to have an exact recommended mix. Guessing how much oil and gas is already in the can could lead to an inaccurate mixture.

    • 2

Pour in the recommended amount of two-cycle oil into the can according to the instructions for the chainsaw.. A common oil-to-gas gas ratio is 50 to 1 but this can vary by the make of the chainsaw. A 50 to 1 ratio translates to 2.5 oz. of oil for each gallon of gas.

    • 3

Pour the correct amount of gas into the can.

    • 4

Shake the can thoroughly to mix the oil and gas. Shake the can each time prior to filling the chainsaw to assure you have the proper mix.
