How to Replace the Line in a Weed Eater TE 400 CXL

The Weed Eater Twist and Edge 400 is a gas-powered trimmer that gives you the ability to rotate the base of the unit so you can trim and edge with the same machine. The TE 400 CXL uses a powerful motor to rotate a thin line at high speeds, and this line will cut almost any small vegetation in its path. The line is inevitably destroyed in this process, but all you have to do is pull out a little more line from the spool to replace the broken line. Eventually, the line in the spool will run out, and you will have to add more.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the switch on the handle to the "Off" position and let the Weed Eater come to a complete stop. Place the trimmer on the ground with the cutting head facing up.

    • 2

Hold the head with one hand while you turn the cap on the bottom of the head counterclockwise with the other. Pull off the cap, then remove the small line guide ring and finally pull off the entire spool. Remove any remaining line from the spool.

    • 3

Cut off a 30-foot stretch of 0.080-inch Poulan/Weed Eater line from your replacement line stock.

    • 4

Insert one end of the replacement line into the center cavity of the spool. Feed the line into the spool so that the line wraps around the center in a counterclockwise direction. Continue feeding line in until only about 4 to 6 inches of line remain outside the spool.

    • 5

Place the spool back on the Weed Eater. Slide the guide ring around the small piece of extended line and then place it against the spool. Place the line into the slot on the side of the guide ring and replace the cap. Ensure that the line remains in the slot on the guide ring while you tighten the cap.
