How to Enhance Artificial Grass

Artificial grass is for more than just football fields; it's great for lawns, near pools and near playgrounds and for people wanting the look of a nice yard without all the hassles of weeding and mowing the lawn. Enhance the look of your artificial grass and your yard, by keeping it free from debris and well maintained. Although artificial turf is relatively maintenance free, you'll need to check it from time to time to keep it looking best.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the grass periodically for tears on the surface and loose connections near the edges, paying special attention to high-traffic areas. Tuck the edges back into the joints following manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Clean the surface of the turf with a stiff-bristled broom or a leaf blower to remove debris.

    • 3

Remove any animal feces as you normally would, and spray down the area with a hose to help eliminate any residue or urine. Many turfs allow liquid to penetrate the fibers, but you'll need to rinse off urine to limit stains to the turf and to keep it cleaner.

    • 4

Wipe away spills as soon as possible. Although artificial turf is intended to repel spills -- such as paint -- remove spills with towels and spray down the area with water.

    • 5

Refresh crushed blade fibers with a stiff-bristled brush or the bristled attachment on a shop vacuum, by scrubbing back and forth to revive the blades upward to a normal position. It may take several sessions to get the turf looking normal again.

    • 6

Plant flowers or hedges around the artificial turf to beautify the surround area and make it look more natural. Cover the soil with mulch or rocks to limit weed growth.
