How to Take Apart a Toro 51556

The Toro 51556 trimmer is packaged in two parts that you need to assemble to use the machine. If you need to return the trimmer, or if you need to conserve space for storage, you should take apart the Toro 51556. The other part that comes off of the trimmer is the cutting line spool, which you need to replace when the line wears down.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Slide a screwdriver as far as possible into one of the openings on the cutting line spool and twist the screwdriver to the right to remove the spool. The spool will pop off of the Toro 51556 spindle when you twist the screwdriver.

Remove the locking nuts on the side of the trimmer's motor unit, and pull out the bolts to release the extension arm from the motor unit. The extension arm is the thin metal rod with the cutter on the end of it.

    • 3

Grip the extension and pull it out of the motor unit. Pull on the arm with a firm motion, and twist it left and right if you have trouble sliding it out of the motor unit. Do not yank on the extension arm.
