DIY Drip Watering

What kind of drip water system you need depends on the distance from your outside water spigot to the desired garden area, pots or baskets. If watering multiple plants that are not grouped together, it is important to calculate how many separate plants you will be watering and how often. After figuring that, you'll be able to determine how much tubing and how many T connectors you need. (It's best to purchase at least 10 percent extra, just in case, and remember to consider leaving some slack in your line.)

Instructions

  1. Designing The System

    • 1
Make connections near the water source.

Connect the controller to the backflow preventer and then connect the pressure regulator.

    • 2
The system can be hooked up to any water source.

Once assembled, connect a Y connector to the spigot and connect the entire assembly to the outside spigot or other water source.

    • 3
      Run line between plants.

Place one end of the tubing into the adapter, then roll it out to the first plant and cut through for a straight edge. Place the end of the tubing into the connector, then twist and repeat. Each plant receives an emitter, which is the piece that drips water onto the plant. Then attach the end cap.
