Adding seating to a back yard can be a great way to make it more functional and can provide incentive to get out there and enjoy it. You can go all-out and build a patio, deck or gazebo to create seating for many people. However, you also can simply place a canopied garden swing chair in your yard. Both make a yard look inviting and give you a reason to get out and enjoy your property.
If you like to decorate your yard but don't want to commit to permanent serious alterations, add some seasonal decorations. During the winter holiday season, add lights, snowmen or religious displays. During mid to late October, add cobwebs, skeletons, bats, pumpkins and more to the trees and gardens in your yard.
Most people think of having a garden in the back yard, which can be wonderful, but a small garden in the front yard can help to improve the look of the yard. You can plant a flower garden, of course, but you also can plant a small vegetable garden or herb garden in the front.
Inanimate objects require less maintenance than temporary decorations or gardens. Use decorative crushed rock to decorate your yard, or install some statuary or a feature like a gate or trellis. Water features can be beautiful, but they do require maintenance.
