Snapper L.E. Snow Blower Instructions

Winter is always fun -- in theory. But when the time comes to shovel off the walk or uncover a driveway that's buried deep in snow, the thrill may wear off. Rather than subject themselves to the hard work of muscling snow out of the way, many homeowners have opted for a snow blower, also called a snowthrower. These powerful machines, including the Snapper L.E. Snowthrower, scoop up the snow with a spinning auger and spit it out to the side.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the snowthrower. On electric-start models, connect the power cord to the starter switch box on the control panel and plug the other end into an AC outlet. On both electric-start and recoil models, move the choke control to the "On" position and turn the key to the "On" position. Push the primer button in three times if starting a cold engine. On recoil-start models, pull the rope handle to crank the engine and, after it starts, move the choke to the "Off" position. For electric-start models, push the "Start" button; do not hold it down for more than 20 seconds.

    • 2

Move the choke control to "Off" after the engine starts. Remove the power cord and store it in a safe place, if applicable. Warm the engine up briefly, until it is running smoothly.

    • 3

Place the deflector in the desired position. Loosen the deflector knob, then position it at the angle you want using the handle on the deflector. Re-tighten the knob when you have the deflector where you want it.

    • 4

Use the handle on the discharge chute to rotate it into the position you wish. Avoid throwing snow into areas you have previously cleared or will have to clear, if possible, or elsewhere where the snow may pose a problem, such as a neighbor's yard or public walk.

    • 5

Engage the auger by pulling the auger control up to the handle; it resembles the throttle control on a lawnmower. Release the auger control when making adjustments to the deflector or discharge chute.

    • 6

Push the snowthrower forward to begin removing snow. Do not attempt to go too quickly. If the auger becomes clogged, stop the engine and remove the key. Use a stick or other implement to clear the auger -- never use your bare hands. Once you are finished clearing snow, stop the auger by releasing the auger control. Disengage the engine by turning the key switch to "Off."
