Troubleshooting a Toro 20016 Lawn Mower

The Toro model 20016 is a 22-inch, walk-behind lawnmower that was produced from 2003 through 2006. The lawnmower is equipped with a recyclable bag for trimmings that attaches to the side of the lawnmower. It features a 6.5 horsepower Tecumseh engine. If your Toro lawnmower encounters minor problems, perform some basic troubleshooting to avoid costly repairs at a service center.

Instructions

Empty the gas tank with a drainage pump, as the gas begins to degrade after 30 days of no operation. Place the hose into the gas tank and begin the pump to remove the gasoline. The method by which the gasoline is removed depends largely on the kind of pump used. Fill the lawnmower with new gas and wipe the exterior of the lawnmower clean of any excess fuel that may leaked over. Restart the engine.

Change the oil in the engine. Remove the dipstick from the top of the engine. Tip the mower over to its right side and drain the oil into the supplied oil pan or a can, bowl or other disposable item. Replace the oil up to the dipstick line and securely re-insert the dipstick.

Insect the spark plugs, which may prohibit the engine from starting. Replace the spark plugs with Champion RJ119LM spark plugs gapped at .030 inches, or a compatible brand. Look for spark plugs that are improperly gapped, dirty-looking or soaked in fluids. Remove the spark plugs with a 5/8-inch spark plug wrench and replace.
