How to Restring the Weed Eater VIP

"VIP" is a badge given to a large series of Weed Eater lawn and garden tools. Most Weed Eater trimmers utilize the same trimmer head. This makes changing the string on any Weed Eater--branded string trimmer the same. The Weed Eater VIP utilizes a single string wound on a string bobbin located inside the cutter head assembly. You should be able to replace the string in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Weed Eater over so you can view the cutter head assembly located on the very end of the Weed Eater shaft.

    • 2

Pull up firmly on the button located on the cutter head assembly to remove the cover from the assembly. This exposes the string bobbin.

    • 3

Pull the string bobbin off the shaft inside the cutter head assembly and remove any remaining string from the bobbin.

    • 4

Cut a 30-foot length of 0.065-inch-diameter string, using a utility knife.

    • 5

Insert 1 inch of the string into the small hole located on the side of the spool, and then wrap the string around the spool, following the arrow located on top of the spool.

    • 6

Snap the string into the notch on the top of the spool, leaving 1 foot unwound.

    • 7

Slide the unwound portion of the string through the eyelet on the cutter head assembly as you slide the spool onto the shaft inside the assembly.

    • 8

Snap the bump button back onto the cutter head assembly.

    • 9

Pull hard on the string that's protruding from the cutter head assembly to free the string from the notch.
