How to Replace the Line on a Snap & Go Trimmer

The Snap & Go trimmer, manufactured by Weed Eater, uses electricity to power the single string trimmer head. The EK8 is an example of a Snap & Go trimmer. Weed Eater utilizes the same cutter head on most of their weed trimmers so the process of changing the string is relatively consistent across each model. You might think the tern "Snap & Go" relates to the installation of the string. However, to install new string you must disassemble the cutter head. This is not as easy as snapping and going.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Snap & Go Weed Eater from its electrical power source to prevent the trimmer from turning on while you work on it.

    • 2

Flip the trimmer over and locate the trimmer cutter head on the end of the trimmer shaft. The head rotates and the string comes out of it.

    • 3

Pull the cover off the cutter head by pulling on the bump down button located in the center of the head. It may take some force to pull the cover off.

    • 4

Pull the string bobbin off the Snap & Go cutter head and unwind any string left on the bobbin.

    • 5

Cut 30 feet of string with wires cutters. This trimmer uses 0.065-inch-diameter string.

    • 6

Slide one end of the string into the hole located on the side of the bobbin, then wind the string tightly around the bobbin in the direction of the arrow printed on the bobbin. With one foot left unwound, secure the string to the notch on the topside of the bobbin.

    • 7

Slide the bobbin onto the cuter shaft and thread the string though the eyelet in the cutter head. Secure the cover back onto the cutter head by pressing it in place until it snaps.

    • 8

Pull hard on the string to release it from the notch. This enables the string to feed when you press the bump down button against the ground.
