How to Remove Yard Clippings

If you have a yard to take care of, removing clippings and other yard debris becomes a year-round event. Plants, trees, shrubs, and grass stand in need of regular trimming, pruning and cutting maintenance. The clippings on the ground after working in the yard must be cleaned up to prevent insect and rodent problems. These piles can also lead to the spread of diseases harmful to friendly vegetation. While some clippings can be placed in the compost pile, others need to be removed from the yard altogether.

Instructions

    • 1

Rake all clippings into piles close to where they were cut. Use a leaf rake on the lighter clippings and a garden rake on the heavier clippings.

    • 2

Travel to each pile and pick the clippings up with the rake tines and your hand. Put them in a wheelbarrow.

    • 3

Haul the clippings to the back of a pickup truck and toss them inside the bed. Keep the tailgate shut. Alternatively, bag smaller clippings in biodegradable lawn waste bags and bundle sticks and twigs as directed by your municipal waste removal program or trash contractor.

    • 4

Haul the clippings to a refuse center for yard waste. Pay the disposal fee and then unload the clippings. Use a rake and a broom to get them out of the pickup truck bed. Place your yard bags and bundles curbside on pick-up day, if applicable..
