How to Replace a Belt on a Toro CCR3650

The Toro CCR 3650 is a heavy-duty 6.5 horsepower engine snow thrower made by the Minnesota-based Toro Company. Among this snow blower's highlights are a 20-inch swath and a highly powerful engine to cut through heavy snow in fewer strokes than smaller snow throwers. The belt is on a Toro must be replaced as part of regular maintenance. If the belt snaps, the engine does not operate properly. It is best to change the belt before it does snap. Signs of wear include loud operating noises and small cracks in the belt.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the engine and allow it to cool. Remove the key from the on/off switch. Do not want to touch any of the engine components while they are hot. Serious injury can occur.

    • 2

Unscrew three screws on the snow thrower control panel. Place the screws in a place where you will not lose them and lift off the control panel. Let the panel hang on the recoil rope. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the housing.

    • 3

Remove the three screws on the left hand side of the snow thrower frame. Other items that secure the drive belt cover to the frame are two locknuts, one washer and two cap screws. These must be removed as well. Twist the locknuts with the wrench to loosen them from the base. The sizes of these locknuts may vary from year to year.

Pull up on the idler pulley. The idler pulley is located on the side of the belt and pushes the belt forward. Pulling the idler up loosens the belt. With the idler pulled up, remove it from the pulley, brake arm assembly and engine pulley.

    • 5

Install the new belt. First take the belt and place it around the engine pulley (next to the idler pulley). Continue looping the belt under the idler pulley, through the brake assembly and around the rotor pulley. Lift the idler pulley again to provide some extra room to maneuver. Make sure the belt is located under the idler pulley but on top of the idler pulley roller, which is an extension of the idler pulley.

Reinstall the drive belt cover. Reconnect the spark plug wire and fasten the screws back onto the face of the control panel.
