Different Kinds of Push Lawn Mowers

Push mowers are a simple solution for small yards and rooftop gardens. These machines are offered in array of power options including, reel, electric and gas. Consider budget and yard size when making your purchase.
  1. Reel Mower

    • One type of push mower is referred to as the reel mower. This model requires no power other than sturdy arms and legs. Maintenance is low with blades that last for years between sharpening. Reel mowers use an assembly of long, thin blades arranged in a cylindrical shape. Push reel mowers weigh between 17 and 40 pounds.

    Electric Mower

    • Electric push mowers are either designed to be plugged in with an electric cord or are battery powered. Like gas-powered mowers, they usually use a propeller-like flat disc blade assembly. These energy-efficient mowers are relatively quiet, inexpensive to maintain and start easily with a touch of a button. These do not work as well for a larger yard but are efficient for smaller spaces.

    Gas Push Mower

    • Gas-powered push mower are, in general notoriously loud, but depending on the brand, a gas-powered push mower can be quiet. For example, the low-emission Husqvarna 7021P with a Honda engine is quiet and fuel efficient. Some people find the traditional pull-cord starter difficult to operate. Gas push mowers come with either four-stroke or two-stroke engines.
