How to Kill a Hornet Nest

Hornets often form circular nests on the branches of trees or in the corners of buildings. Hornets are far more aggressive than paper wasps, and if the nest is disturbed they will defend their home. An active hornet nest is highly volatile, and every precaution should be made when attempting to remove the nest from your home or office. In an ideal situation, your best solution is to call a professional exterminator.

Instructions

    • 1

Don the wasp suit. Professional wasp suits are available for purchase. If one is not available, it is not recommended that you attempt to remove a hornet nest.

    • 2

Spray insecticide into the opening of the nest. Hornet nests only have one opening that is usually located somewhere near the bottom half. Be careful not to touch or break apart any portion of the nest during this process.

    • 3

Wait 24 hours after spraying the insecticide to return to the nest. If you still observe hornets in the area, spray the insecticide in the nest again. Repeat this process until you no longer observe hornet activity.

    • 4

Remove the nest by hand. Even if you haven't seen hornets in a while, be safe and wear your wasp suit. It is also recommended that you keep the nest intact during this final removal.
