How to Adjust the Gear Drive of a Pop Up Sprinkler Head

Pop up sprinklers are a type of lawn sprinkler that remain hidden until it is time to initiate the water. If the sprinklers require an adjustment of the water distance or pattern, you will need to access the head of the sprinkler. To do this, first determine the type of sprinkler head, then make any necessary adjustments.

Instructions

  1. Rotor Sprinkler

    • 1

Turn the head of the pop-up sprinkler to the right until it stops.

    • 2

Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the head of the gray-colored screw, then turn the screw to the left.

    • 3

Turn the base of the sprinkler and align it with the silver-colored screw to adjust the end of the spray point.

    • 4

Turn the gray-colored screw to the right 1/4 of a turn to set the angle to 90 degrees.

    • 5

Turn the small silver screw that is located at the top of the nozzle to the right or left. Turning the screw to the left increases the spray while turning it to the right decreases the spray.

    Pop Up Head

    • 6

Pull up on the pop-up portion of the head and find the black tip that is located on the end of the nozzle.

    • 7

Turn it clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the counter. Turning clockwise increases the spray pattern while turning counter-clockwise decreases the spray pattern.

    • 8

Find the small screw that is located on the top of the nozzle. Turning the screw in the counterclockwise direction will increase the spray distance while turning it clockwise will decrease the spray distance.
