How to Put a John Deere 54 Front Blade in the Float Position

John Deere builds a hydraulic float feature into all of its tractor products. The float allows you to float any front attachment over the ground so it doesn't scrape along the surface. All Deere utility tractors with the 54-inch deck can accept hydraulic front attachments like shovels and snow plows. Float can also be useful when working on uneven terrain that may damage the edge of an attachment.

Instructions

    • 1

Place running engine into low gear.

    • 2

Step on the brake to stop all forward movement.

    • 3

Push joystick control all the way forward with a sharp, swift movement. You will feel a catch and the front attachment.

    • 4

Allow the front attachment to rise up and then settle back down slightly to hover or float above the ground.
