Specifications of the Yanmar YM2000BD Tractor

Although unfamiliar to many Americans outside of farming circles, Yanmar is actually one of the world's oldest tractor manufacturers. The Yanmar company's parent opened its doors in Japan in 1912 and introduced the world's first small diesel engine suitable for commercial applications in 1933. Its US subsidiary, Yanmar America, opened in 1979.
  1. Dimensions

    • Most users classify the Yanmar YM2000 as a compact tractor. It measures 108 inches long, 44 inches wide and 69 inches tall while weighing 1,664 lbs. The YM2000BD is 276 lbs. heavier, 8 inches shorter and 2 inches wider. A revived YMG2000D version carries a weight of 1,918 lbs. with a length of 104 inches and 44 inches of width, but it is only 53 inches tall.

    Engine

    • Yanmar makes the YM2000 with a two cylinder diesel engine. It generates 24 horsepower at the flywheel and 20 horsepower when measured at its PTO, or power take off, shaft. Every YM2000's engine has two cylinders, except for the last YMG2000D made which had a three cylinder engine.

    Transmission and Transfer Case

    • Basic YM2000 tractors feature four wheels and two wheel drive. "D" variants add a transfer case to drive all four wheels. Every Yanmar YM2000 tractor, regardless of how many wheels are driven, features a gear-drive manual transmission.

    Model Years

    • The 4x2 YM2000 tractor had a relatively short life, spanning just three model years -- 1975, 1976 and 1977. Yanmar made a YM2000BD all-wheel drive tractor in 1979 and brought back a similar AWD tractor back as the YMG2000D in 1988 and 1989.
