Using copper sulfate is an economical, safe, effective and environmentally friendly way to stop tree roots from impeding the flow of water into your sewer system. In addition, the chemical kills organisms responsible for unpleasant odors that originate from your municipal or septic tank sewer system. Copper sulfate is readily available from hardware stores and retailers that carry supplies for swimming pools. You add it to your sewer system by flushing it down your toilet.
