Cram-A-Lot Baler VB Series Instructions

The Cram-a-Lot VB series of vertical balers are used in the recycling industry to bale small quantities of aluminum, plastic and cardboard. The machines in this series can handle up to refrigerator-size boxes without needing to be broken down into smaller pieces first. You must be 18 or older to use any of  the Cram-a-Lot balers legally because of the potential danger if the machines are operated improperly.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the baler in an area where there is at least 2 feet of clearance along the sides and back so there is enough room to insert the baling wire you need to tie off the bales. It also needs enough clearance in front for the door to swing all the way open so you can eject the bale without hitting it. The back of the machine must be kept completely clear of debris for safe operation.

    • 2

Open the chamber door and place a single piece of cardboard the width of the machine along the bottom to cover up the  wire slots. This is to prevent material from getting stuck in the slots, making it difficult to tie off the bales. Close the chamber door and secure the latch.

    • 3

Load the baler with recyclable material, but don’t pack it down or overfill the machine.

    • 4

Insert the key into the start switch and turn it to the right to the “Power On” position. The Mode Selector switch should light up. Make sure the the big red Stop button is pulled out one click. Otherwise, you won’t be able to operate the baler.

    • 5

Pull down the loading door with both hands and set the Mode Selector switch to “Auto.” Make sure the chamber door is securely latched.

    • 6

Turn the start key to “Start” and hold it in place until you hear the platen start to come down. Then, remove the key. Wait for the baler to complete its cycle, compressing the material. The loading door will automatically open when it is done.

    • 7

Place a full sheet of cardboard over the top of the compressed material. Pull down the loading door and select “Manual Down” on the Mode Selector switch. Insert the key and turn it to “Start” until the platen starts to move. Allow the platen to come down on the material until it can no longer move. The motor will stop automatically. Then remove the key.

    • 8

Open the chamber door. Clear the area behind the baler if it is not already clear. Insert the bale wires, loop end first, into the slots in the front of the bale chamber near the ground. Use the appropriate size needed for your particular model of baler. Push each wire through until it reaches the back of the baler.

    • 9

Move to the back of the baler and take the baling wires from each slot a the bottom and move it up to the corresponding slot at the top of the machine. Pull the straight end of the wire through the looped end and pull tight and twist it to secure the bale tightly. Repeat this for all the bale ties. The exact number depends on your model.

    • 10

Push the Bale Dump button at the front of the platen into  the “Eject” position. Set the Mode Selector switch to the “Manual Up” position. Place a pallet in front of the baler, if desired.

    • 11

Insert the key into the start switch and turn it to the right to the “Power On” position. Pull and hold the “Raise” button. The bale will begin to raise and rotate out of the baler until it falls out on your pallet.

    • 12

Remove the bale and clean any lose material inside and around the baler.
