My Tecumseh Snowblower Has a Leaking Carburetor

Tecumseh snowblowers utilize an engine assembly with a bowl-shaped carburetor typical of many small engines. If the carburetor is leaking, it is likely due to a loose nut or a buildup of fluids within the bowl, requiring tightening of the bowl and/or disassembly and cleaning. You can avoid expensive professional repairs and adjust your Tecumseh snowblower's leaking carburetor yourself with just a few simple tools. Previous expertise with operating on snowblower carburetors is not required.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Tecumseh snowblower. Allow its engine assembly to cool for several minutes.

    • 2

Locate the snowblower's leaking carburetor. The carburetor can be found on the right side of the engine block, about halfway up. It is easily recognizable by its bowl shape. The carburetor bowl has a needle valve near its bottom, and below this and on the underside of the Tecumseh carburetor bowl is a nut. If your carburetor is leaking, it will be from this nut.

    • 3

Place a pan under the snowblower's carburetor. Loosen the carburetor bowl's nut using a socket wrench. Wait as any excess fuel and fluid flow into your pan, then remove the pan.

    • 4

Remove the carburetor bowl's nut entirely with your socket wrench. This will loosen the bowl and allow you to twist it off.

    • 5

Clean out your Tecumseh snowblower's carburetor bowl now that you have it disassembled. Use a cloth and carburetor cleaning solution to wipe out the inside of the bowl, then screw it back into place.

    • 6

Return the nut to its place under the carburetor bowl. Tighten the nut with your socket wrench until you can tighten it no further. Your snowblower is now ready to use again.
