Walk the length of your yard in rows with a box to hold small and medium size rocks. If you find any loose rocks, pull them out by hand and place them into the box. Keep small rocks separate from leafy yard waste.
Dig out large rocks with a shovel and get help to move them out of your yard. If the rock is unique in shape, consider placing it on top of the lawn as a decorative ornament.
Completely remove the weeds, including the taproot when applicable. If a section of this anchoring root is left in the soil, the weed is likely to regrow. Discard the weeds and other plant waste into a lawn bag.
Use weed killers carefully, as improper use may result in dead grass, vegetables, flowers and trees that you wanted to preserve. Read the instructions carefully before applying chemical weed killing agents on your yard.
Mow your yard with a bag to catch the heads of flowering weeds and weed clippings so that new growth doesn’t spread through the yard. Don’t mow the grass too low, as this can dry out and yellow the existing grass.
