How to Attach a Snowblower on My John Deere 160

Various attachments for the John Deere 160 can give the riding lawn mower additional versatility. One of those attachments is a snow blower, which makes the machine as useful in the winter as it is in the warm seasons. As useful as the attachment is, putting it on can be difficult. It involves a thorough knowledge of the mower and snow blower attachment mechanics. As such, this task should only be performed by an adult familiar with operating the mower and other large machinery.

Instructions

    • 1

Park the mower on a stable, level surface and turn it off. Push down on the lift pedal on the lower left hand in front of the seat to move the mower deck to the highest setting. Rotate the mower cutting height knob behind the seat to the highest setting.

    • 2

Unscrew the bolts holding in the mower deck. Remove the deck from the machine. Slide the deck drive belt off of the mower.

    • 3

Slide the snow blower attachment on to the mower. The rear brackets must be set under the mower's rear mounting plates. Connect the mower engagement cable into the cable bracket slot on the lower right side of the snow blower attachment. That attachment is on the left side of the drive system plate. Slide the locking pin into place to lock the cable into the bracket slot.

    • 4

Connect the end of the large cable spring in the center to the hole on the left side of the mower's upper tension arm. Take out the spring locking pin and the drilled pin on both sides of the spring that hold the latch on the hanger bracket. Set these pins aside.

    • 5

Pull the hanger bracket latch back. Lift the back of the snow blower attachment frame until the open hanger bracket aligns with the long brushing nuts on the rear mounting plate on each side of the mower.

    • 6

Push the snow blower attachment fame back until it is positioned securely in place in the hanger bracket. Pull the latch forward to close the hanger bracket. Re-insert the drilled and spring locking pins into the hanger bracket.

    • 7

Place the primary drive belt over the mower drive sheave. It will form a loop between the lower part of the hanger bracket and the round drive assembly.

    • 8

Thread an M10 nut onto the mower's adjustable lift rod. Slide the rod's adjustable lift link onto the bracket near the bottom front side of the mower above the wheel. Keep the mounting leg of the lift rod positioned toward the bottom of the mower. Tighten it with a M10 locknut in a clockwise motion. Place the mounting leg of each adjustable lift link on the front mounting plate of the mower, and rotate the mounting leg down.

    • 9

Slide the loop on the lift rod over the mounting pin on the lift arm. Hold it in place with a M17 by 28 OD washer and a spring locking clip. Pull the hood on the mower forward. Place the snow blower chute control bracket onto the console with a M6 by 45 carriage bolt. Connect a M6 serrated lock washer, a M6.4 washer and a M6 wing nut on the carriage bolt from underneath the mower hood. Tighten it in a clockwise motion. Lower the hood and turn the lift mower height knob to the desired setting.
