Put on safety goggles, work gloves, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, ear plugs and a dust mask to protect yourself from airborne debris and the loud sound of the leaf blower. Determine the direction of the wind. You should start with your back toward the wind so that sand and other debris are not blown back at you.
Point the nozzle away from the gravel when starting the leaf blower. Turn it onto the lowest throttle possible so that you do not blow the gravel away when you start to blow off the sand.
Turn the nozzle toward the sandy gravel. Keep the end of the nozzle only as close to the gravel as necessary to blow off the sand. Use a back and forth sweeping motion with the nozzle as you proceed. Work slowly and patiently.
