How to Assemble Intex Plunger Valves

Intex plunger valves attach to the outside of the Intex above-ground pool to allow water to move from the pool into the pump and back out again. Plunger valves have handles on the top that can be open or closed depending on if you want water to flow or stop. Intex uses plunger valves with Intex filter pumps that have a gallons per hour rating of 1,500 and higher. Plunger valves come in the box with the pump and filter, attached to the threaded connectors on the strainer basket and return jet.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the box and remove all of the pieces. The box should have the filter and pump unit, two hoses with hose nuts on both ends and the plunger valves with the threaded connectors, strainer and return jet.

    • 2

Unscrew the plunger valves from the threaded connectors and set aside.

    • 3

Insert the strainer basket into the lower of the two holes in the Intex pool from the inside of the pool. The threaded connector will be sticking out the hole on the outside.

    • 4

Screw a plunger valve onto the threaded connector with the handle at the top. Push the plunger down and twist to keep water from escaping the pool.

    • 5

Insert the return jet into the other hole in the Intex pool from inside the pool. The threaded connector will be sticking out of the hole on the outside.

    • 6

Screw the other plunger valve onto the threaded connector with the plunger handle on top. Push the plunger down and twist to keep water from escaping the pool.

    • 7

Attach a hose to the bottom of each plunger valve and hand tighten the hose nuts to secure. The lower plunger valve hose should attach to the intake port on the left side of the filter, and the higher plunger valve hose attaches to the outflow on the right.

Twist the handles and pull the plungers up to allow water to enter the hoses, filter and pump.
