The maker of Intex swimming pools supplies a specific pool filter and pump unit for each of the pools in its model lineup. Intex cartridge filter pumps are able to filter a specified maximum number of gallons per hour. Intex classifies the cartridge filter applicable to each of its cartridge filter pumps by a letter. For example, the Intex Type A pool filter cartridge is designed to filter from 530 to 1,500 gallons of water per hour.
Intex Type A filter cartridges are compatible with all Intex Type A cartridge filter pumps. All Intex Type A filter cartridges contain special filtration fabric the company calls "GrimeGuard." Intex makes the Type A filter cartridge only in a 4.25-inch diameter by eight-inch tall size. Each Intex Type cartridge filter is designed to last for about two weeks before requiring replacement.
Intex Type A cartridge filter pumps come with a filter cartridge already installed. Intex Type A pool cartridge filters can be replaced quickly and easily. You only need to shut the Intex Type A filter pump unit off, remove the pump's lid and then swap out the old cartridge for a new one. Once you've refastened the Intex Type A filter pump's lid after replacing its filter cartridge you can then safely turn the unit back on.
Intex Type A filter cartridges are sold individually or in packs at retailers also selling Intex swimming pools. The 2011 price for a 3-pack of Intex Type A filter cartridges is about $20. Intex advises that if swimmers are using a lot of oil-based suntan products, Type A filters should be replaced more often.
