Lay string or a thin rope around the swimming pool to mark the desired location of the fence. Space the rope 3 feet from the edge of the pool, so people inside the enclosed area can move freely.
Decide where you want to install the gate. Ideally, a gate is adjacent to a pool's stairs and measures 3 to 5 feet wide. Measure the length of the string to determine the amount of fencing you need.
Mark the locations for the pool fence posts on the concrete surrounding the swimming pool. Read manufacturer recommendations for the ideal spacing between posts. Spacing between posts for every 15-foot section is generally 36 inches. Measure and mark the spots using a waterproof marker.
Insert a 1/2-inch diamond core bit in a drill. Make a hole through a marked spot without cracking or chipping the surrounding surface. Replace the drill bit with a 3/4-inch drill bit and drill through the same hole. Expand the hole using a 1-1/4-inch drill bit. Repeat the process of drilling identical holes at the marked spots around the pool.
Remove loose debris and cement around each hole with a brush. Insert a polyvinyl sleeve all the way into each hole until it rests snugly over the base.
Lower a post into the sleeve so it rests snugly inside. Push the post to nestle it upright and twist it clockwise to lock it in place. Repeat the process of inserting the remaining posts into the sleeves.
Push a metal clamp around the top and bottom end of each post. Adjust the clamps to face the direction of the pre-formed holes in the aluminum fencing. Push a screw through the top and bottom end of a fence section that penetrates the adjacent post. Repeat the procedure all around the pool, except between the two gate posts.
Look for the two openings at the tops of both gate posts. Insert a spring-loaded hook into each gate opening.
