How to Test Pool Water With Salt Chlorinator

Salt chlorination pool systems can take standard table salt and convert it to chlorine. Pools with these systems generally require less maintenance when it comes to adding more product to keep the pool clean. Factors such as evaporation and spillage can affect the chemical levels in salt chlorination pools, however, so it's still important to regularly check the salt levels. A biweekly check ensures the pool water stays at safe conditions.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip a salt level test strip in the pool water. Hold the test strip in place for 10 seconds so that it gets thoroughly saturated.

    • 2

Enclose the test strip in a small glass or plastic container, and let it sit for five minutes. Most salt level test kits should include a small test tube to hold the strip.

    • 3

Remove the test strip from the container.

    • 4

Compare the color on the test strip with the color standards on the chart included with the test kit. The color on the chart clearly indicates whether the salt is too low, too high or at a safe level.
