How to Troubleshoot an Intex Type B Filter

Intex manufactures above-ground swimming pools and filter systems for residential applications. All Intex above-ground pools utilize external canister filter pumps to circulate and purify pool water. Type A filter systems are recommended for pools requiring up to 1,500-gallons-per-hour filtering capacity. Intex Type B canister pool filter systems like the Model 633 are recommended for larger pools requiring up to 2,500-gallons-per-hour capacity. The Intex Model 633 features adjustable inlet and outlet nozzles and an integrated timer to automatically filter water for a specified period every 24 hours. The pump requires 120 volts AC and should be connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protected outlet.

Instructions

  1. Problem: Filter Doesn't Keep Pool Water Clean

    • 1

Check the chlorine levels in the pool and adjust if necessary.

    • 2

Open the filter canister, remove the filter and examine for excessive buildup of dirt or damage to the filter such as holes.

    • 3

Check for a blocked strainer screen at the inlet nozzle and unclog if necessary.

    • 4

Set the timer to run the filter pump for longer periods.

Problem: Filter Doesn't Pump Or Pumps Too Slow

    • 5

Check for blockages in the inlet or outlet lines. Also look for air leaks in the inlet line.

    • 6

Open the filter canister, remove the filter and examine for excessive buildup of scale or dirt.

    • 7

Make sure the lines from the pump to the inlet and outlet nozzles in the pool are not reversed.

Problem: No Filter Function At All

    • 8

Verify that the water level in the pool is above the level of the inlet nozzle.

    • 9

Check the strainer screen and unclog if necessary.

    • 10

Look for air leaks in the inlet hose.

    • 11

Verify that the pump motor operates when energized and that the impeller in the pump turns.

    Problem: Pump Cover Leaks

    • 12

Remove the canister cover and make sure the O-ring is properly installed.

    • 13

Tighten the canister cover if it appears loose.

    • 14

Clean or replace the filter if it is obstructed due to buildup of dirt or scale.

Problem: Air Lock Inside The Filter

    • 15

Open the air-release valve on top of the filter canister to release air. Close the air release valve when water begins to spurt out of it.

    • 16

Verify that the lines from the pump to the inlet and outlet nozzles in the pool are not reversed.

    • 17

Make sure all inlet and outlet hose connections fit properly and that nuts are tightened.
