Pool Drain Cover Installation

Federal law requires that all pool and spas have properly fitted and up-to-date drain covers installed. This prevents a swimmer from getting hair, bathing suits or any body parts caught in the drain, which can lead to drowning. The installation of the drain cover is simple and does not require special equipment. Once the cover is installed, you can enjoy the swimming pool or spa safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the correct drain cover for your pool. It should be made by the same manufacturer as the pump and should be rated to handle the maximum flow of the pump.

    • 2

Place the drain cover gate over the sump body so the holes in the gate line up with the screw holes in the sump. Use a screwdriver to screw the screws into place. Only use the screws that come with the drain cover.

    • 3

Place the anti-vortex plate over the drain gate so the screw holes line up. Screw the plate into place using the manufacturer's provided screws.

    • 4

Replace the cover using the same steps approximately every seven years.
