I Have Pinholes in the Floor of My Swimming Pool; How Do I Fix It?

The moisture in the ground near above-ground swimming pools occasionally attracts termites. When termites infest the area below a swimming pool, they can eat through the vinyl lining, leaving tiny pinholes. If enough pinholes accumulate, your pool may get a slow leak. You can prevent future damage by placing a plastic sheet under the liner and calling an exterminator. A commercial underwater swimming pool patch kit can permanently repair existing holes.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the damage on the bottom of a filled pool, using swimming goggles to see clearly. If you can't see any pinholes, drain the pool to a depth of 6 inches and inspect the liner again.

    • 2

Wipe the damaged area with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or algae.

    • 3

Cut a vinyl patch, included in the repair kit, with a pair of scissors so it is 2 inches larger in diameter than the damaged area.

    • 4

Apply a thin layer of the included glue to the back of the patch.

    • 5

Fold the patch in half with the adhesive side in.

    • 6

Return to the damaged area, unfold the patch and press it firmly over the damaged area. Smooth out the patch with your fingers to remove bubbles.
