How to Clean the Brick in Pool Care

Brick in and around a pool is known as "coping." Brick coping maintains a cool temperature in the summer and is easy to maintain. Cleaning the brick in the pool can be done when you open the pool in the spring, just before you close it in the fall, or whenever it becomes heavily stained. When cleaning the brick, take your time so you do not get detergent into the pool water.

Instructions

    • 1

Drain the pool so the bricks you want to clean are exposed. Lower the water level to at least 6 inches below the brick.

    • 2

Sweep the brick with a broom to remove the debris. Sweep the debris away from the pool water.

    • 3

Fill a 5-gallon bucket with warm water. Add enough household detergent to create suds. Dip a scrub brush into the bucket and gently scrub the surface of the bricks. For large areas, you can use a scrub brush with a long handle.

    • 4

Rinse the bricks with a garden hose. Direct the spray away from the pool water.

    • 5

Apply a brick cleaner to any hard-to-remove stains that did not come up with the detergent. Follow the directions on the package for use. Rinse with the hose. Let the bricks dry before filling the pool again.
