How to Add a Control Valve to a Pond Pump Hose Line

Installing a water regulator in-line with the hose on a water pump is a great way to restrict the flow of water when needed. Often a pump can pump too much water at one time. This can make a fountain that is controlled by a pond pump too aggressive. A regular installed in-line with the pump will give you the ability to control this.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the water regulator next to the water hose where you plan to install it. Mark each end of the regulator onto the hose with a marker.

    • 2

Cut the section of hose out with a sharp utility knife.

    • 3

Slide the hose couplers into each end of the supply hose. The couplers look like couplers you see on a garden hose. The larger coupler is the female coupler and the smaller coupler is the male coupler.

    • 4

Place band clamps over the hoses where the couplers slide into the hose ends. Tighten the band clamps with a screwdriver.

    • 5

Thread the couplers onto each end of the water regulator. One end of the regulator accepts make coupler and the other end of the regulator accepts the female coupler.

    • 6

Set the dial on the regulator to the desired level.
