How to Repair an Aluminum Pool Exterior

Above-ground pools are typically constructed of aluminum walls and studs, then lined with vinyl. Once the pool is erected and the vinyl is inspected for tears and holes, it is filled with water. However, the aluminum walls can become damaged, and small jagged edges will puncture the vinyl lining, allowing water to leak out of the pool. To keep the vinyl lining intact, you have to patch the hole in the aluminum pool wall. This is relatively simple to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on rubber gloves. Knock off as much dirt and corrosion from the aluminum as possible, using a wire brush.

    • 2

Clean the damaged spot on the aluminum pool with acetone and steel wool. Rinse off the spot with a wet sponge.

    • 3

Combine equal parts of epoxy resin and hardener in a bowl, or use the ratio suggested by the manufacturer of the cold-weld kit. Mix together with a plastic putty knife.

    • 4

Spread the cold-weld mixture over the damaged area on the aluminum pool wall. Let it harden between five and six hours.

    • 5

Monitor the hole thereafter to ensure that no water is leaking from it or that it doesn't split apart again.
