Where to Put an Outdoor Hot Tub

It's important to decide on the location for your hot tub before you take delivery. Once installed, it's a big job to remove and relocate it to another spot. Consider how and when you will use your hot tub the most, your local climate and privacy concerns to help with making your decision. A good location is one that provides the easiest access with the least amount of hassle, since you are likely to use your hot tub more often if you can quickly get in when the mood strikes.
  1. Patio

    • Position your hot tub on a backyard patio adjacent to your home. The close proximity to a rear door allows quick and easy access, which may encourage you to make good use of your investment. During frigid temperatures, and if privacy is an issue, you will welcome the short walk between your home and hot tub in your bathrobe or bathing suit. For extra privacy you can easily set up a removable screen, lattice panels or a row of large potted plants as an inexpensive barrier from prying eyes.

    Covered Structure

    • Install the hot tub in a gazebo or covered arbor structure if you prefer an overhead cover. You can still enjoy the hot tub during snowy winters without the need to remove snow from the cover every time you want to take a dip. Your cover will last much longer, since it will be protected from wet weather and harsh sun. The amount of debris that often makes its way into hot tubs will be greatly reduced, since the overhead will block much of it from falling inside. The overhead will also reduce the buildup of leaves or pine needles on the cover, minimizing cleanup.

    Deck

    • Your deck is a suitable location to place your hot tub if it's sturdy enough to handle the weight when the tub is filled with water and the maximum number of people, as recommended by the manufacturer. Have your deck inspected to ensure that it can handle the total weight and for instructions on the necessary improvements to increase its strength, if necessary. Water from splashing and wet feet will quickly run between the boards, and the surface will be comfortable underfoot as you travel back and forth to your house.

    Outdoor Room

    • For complete protection from the weather while keeping your hot tub cleaner and easy to maintain, construct an outdoor room. The enclosure will block falling and blowing plant debris and keep birds out. Incorporate windows to maintain a desirable view as you relax. You will have a dry place to store bathrobes and towels and a comfortable, private place to change your clothes. Install window screens to allow ventilation while maintaining a bug-free environment.
