Turn off the power to the pool pump and remove the old filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Mark the pipes that connect to the old filter to make connecting them to the new filter easier.
Place the included O-rings on the ends of the valve pipes. Slide the pipes into the fittings on the side of the Pro Series sand filter housing with the control knob on top. Slide the lock-nuts down the pipes and thread them onto the fittings. Turn them clockwise until they are hand tight.
Place the Hayward Pro Series filter housing on a level surface near the pump, not more than six feet above the maximum level of the water in the pool.
Connect the outlet hose from the pool pump to the inlet marked “Pump” on the Hayward Pro Series control valve. Slide the threaded end of the hose into the port on the valve and turn it clockwise until it is tight. Use an appropriate adapter if the existing threads don’t fit into the valve port.
Connect the hose that returns to the pool to the port marked “Return” on the control valve. Tighten the connection, using an adapter if necessary.
Connect the “Waste” port on the valve to a drain line or length of pipe to allow backwash water to pump out a safe distance from the pool pump and wiring.
Prepare the Hayward Pro Series sand filter for first use according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Turn on the pool pump and inspect the connections for leaks. Tighten the connections in small increments until any leaks stop.
