Find the water line leaving the pool. Pools have two water lines, one entering and the other leaving. To determine which is which, put your hand in front of the line inside the pool. One will be pushing water into the pool, the other sucking water from it.
Shut down the filtration system and either unplug the pump or turn off the breaker.
Drain the filter and water lines.
Follow the water line leaving the pool until it gets to the pump. Then, follow the line leaving the pump, until 3 feet from the pump or until there is 18 inches of straight pipe. If your pool has a heater, follow the pipe from the pump into the heater and away from the heater, 3 feet or at least 18 inches of straight pipe.
Measure the chlorinator, since it will install along the pipe, you need to cut away a length of pipe to fit it. Use the hacksaw to cut a small section of pipe and dry-fit the chlorinator. Continue measuring and fitting until you correctly fit the chlorinator.
Remove the chlorinator from the pipes and apply PVC glue to the outside edges of the water line. Insert the lines into the chlorinator one at a time, keeping the chlorinator level.
Allow the glue to dry.
Restore power to all pool equipment.
Prime the pump with water and start the filter.
Check the area the chlorinator is installed on for leaks. If you find a leak, turn off all equipment, drain the water and add more glue to the connections.
