How to Adjust the Directional Ball in a Pool Skimmer

The pool skimmer and return jet are both parts of the pool's filtration system and are directly related to one another. It's essential that they work in unison in order to ensure proper filter operation and water circulation. The water enters the filter system through the skimmer and is released back into the pool through the return jet. Adjusting the directional ball can change the direction that the water flows from the filter. In order to work properly, however, it needs to be positioned correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your hand in the water and feel around the return jet to see which direction the water is flowing. Turn off the filter.

    • 2

Grab the eye of the return jet and adjust it so that the opening is facing away from the pool skimmer and parallel to the water surface. The return jet works on a pivoting swivel base. The easiest way to turn it is to place your finger inside the hole and direct it from there.

Turn the filter on. Observe the water flow and make small adjustments if necessary. The main thing to ensure is that the water flows away from the skimmer.
