How to Get Suspended Soil Out of Swimming Pool Water

Suspended soil in a swimming pool is dirt that is floating on the surface of the water or may be floating somewhere between the pool bottom and the surface. Moving too quickly can spread the soil, making it harder to remove, so this process should be done slowly to collect as much suspended soil as possible. Regular removal of floating debris keeps your pool clean and reduces the chance of your pool filter clogging.

Things You'll Need

  • Large pool skimmer
  • Garden hose

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the floating dirt in the pool. There may be multiple patches of soil on the surface or suspended below the surface of the water.

    • 2

Slowly submerge the pool skimmer under the water near the patches of soil.

    • 3

Slowly lift up the skimmer to collect the dirt when the skimmer is directly underneath the soil.

    • 4

Hold the skimmer straight and move it away from the pool. Turn it over and dump out the soil outside the pool area.

    • 5

Rinse the skimmer with a garden hose before going back to remove more floating soil. Continue skimming off the soil until you cannot catch any more with the skimmer.

    • 6

Turn the pool filter on after removing all large masses of floating soil to clean up smaller bits of soil that the skimmer missed.
