How to Direct the Directional Ball in a Pool Skimmer

A filter system relies on a pool skimmer to direct the water into the filter, which is then pushed back into the pool via a return jet. The return jet can be best described as an eyeball that can pivot in all directions. Adjusting the directional ball is easy, but where you direct it can have an effect on overall filter performance. The directional ball must be adjusted to flow away from the pool skimmer.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the filter. Determine the water flow coming from the pool's return jet. If you cannot visibly see the water flow, place your hand in the water and feel for the water flow.

    • 2

Turn the filter off and place your hand on the directional ball of the return jet. Grab the opening and pivot the ball in the direction away from the pool skimmer and make it level to the water surface.

    • 3

Restart the filter. You will see the water flowing away from the pool skimmer, which ensures proper circulation of the pool water. Make minor adjustments if necessary.
