Draining a pool can take a long time, depending on how big it is. Most pool owners only drain the water from their pools when it is absolutely necessary. At other times, you may need to remove a lot of water from a winter pool cover. A submersible pump makes draining the pool quicker and easier over the traditional siphoning method. A submersible pump must be plugged into a power outlet for it to work correctly.

1
Utilize a grounded heavy-duty extension cord if needed. Plug in the submersible pump.

2
Attach the hose to the opening of the pump. Smaller pumps will utilize a standard garden hose, while a more heavy-duty pump will require a standard 1-1/2-inch pool hose. Make sure the hose is long enough to run from the pump to near your yard's closest drain.
