How to Keep Pool Water From Evaporating

Evaporation is a natural process that involves weather condition, mostly the sun, turning water into vapor. Factors such as increased wind, high temperatures and low humidity speed up the process. In average conditions, pool owners can lose up to 2 inches of water per week from the top of their pool. Pool owners have to tolerate evaporation unless they invest in solar covers, which will virtually eliminate pool evaporation.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your swimming pool if you do not already know its dimensions. Solar covers are manufactured and cut in common swimming pool sizes.

    • 2

Visit your local pool supply retailer and purchase a solar cover. It will look like rolls of light blue bubble wrap. The cost varies depending on size.

    • 3

Place the cover bubble side down on the pool surface. Remove the cover when you are swimming and adding chemicals to the pool. Otherwise it can stay on the surface of the pool, eliminating evaporation and warming the pool water as well.
