How to Drain a Doughboy Pool

If you have an above-ground Doughboy pool in your backyard, you do not have to drain the water completely to get it ready for winter. In fact you should never drain your Doughboy pool lower than the filter level, since doing so could cause permanent damage to its mechanisms. But you do need to drain some water out of your Doughboy pool when winter approaches. Draining some of the water allows you to secure the winter cover that will protect your pool in the colder months of the year.

Choose a spot in your property that will be able to handle a large amount of pool water. Use caution when choosing a drainage area, since the chlorine in the pool will kill grass.

Read the instructions that came with the filter in your Doughboy pool. Each filter is different, and you need to follow the specific instructions for the filter installed in your pool.

Attach the drain hose to the return fitting on the Doughboy pool filter. Turn the drain knob on the filter to start the flow of water. Drain water from the pool only until the water line is 6 inches below the return fitting. Use the lowest water mark on the skimmer faceplate as your guide.
