How to Clean Leaves From a Hot Tub

Because of the frequent use a hot tub gets and its location outside, it requires regular maintenance to keep it clean. The tools for keeping a hot tub clean are the same as those used on a swimming pool, but on a smaller scale. Tools made specifically for hot tub cleaning are available at pool-supply stores. Hot tubs have filters to remove some large particles, including leaves, from the water, but most leaves you remove by hand.

Instructions

    • 1

Scoop out the leaves floating on top of the water with a spa leaf net.

    • 2

Suction the leaves from the bottom of the hot tub with a spa vacuum. These units hook up to a garden hose, using water pressure to suction up dirt and debris, or they operate on batteries or use a non-electric pump to suction.

    • 3

Remove the filter and clean the leaves from inside the filter and around the filter holder. Soak the filter in a filter-cleaning solution overnight to remove any small pieces of leaves or other dirt or debris caught in it. Rinse the filter thoroughly with a garden hose before replacing it.
