How to Melt Ice From Pool Covers

Swimming pool covers protect your pool from winter conditions, as well as prevent leaves and other debris from entering. In cooler climates, water and snow will accumulate on the pool cover. If ice has formed on the cover, the only recommended method to deal with its removal is to wait for the ice to melt as trying to remove it could cause damage to your pool cover or liner.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until the ice on the pool cover melts, then use a pump to remove water from the cover. Do not attempt to remove ice from the cover as the ice's edges could tear the cover.

    • 2

Prevent ice build-up by maintaining an even water level on top of the cover. Keeping at least one inch of water on the cover will prevent it from blowing away. Too much water on the cover may stretch the liner.

    • 3

Remove snow gently from the pool cover with a pool brush.

    • 4

Place an air pillow under the cover of an above-ground pool so that water will run off and not freeze.
