What Do I Do if the Legs on My Above Ground Pool on One Side Are Not Flat on the Ground?

If you have an above ground pool that is already up and the pool legs on one side aren’t flat on the ground, you will need to correct this problem right away. If the pool is not on level ground, the pool foundation is unstable and not safe for swimming.
  1. Tools and Materials Needed

    • You will need a leveling material for leveling the ground. Sand is the best for leveling the ground so that the pool will sit flat when it is erected. You don’t want to erect the pool on grass or rocky surfaces because this can cause punctures in the bottom of the liner. You will need an 8-foot 2-by-4, two levels at least 3 to 4 feet long, a drum roller, a hard rake and a shovel.

    Removing the Pool

    • Remove the pool so you can erect it correctly. You will need to take the pool down by emptying the water and disassembling the walls, legs and liner. Wait for the ground to dry in the pool area before preparing the ground for a level surface.

    Leveling the Ground

    • Remove any grass and rocks in the area where the above ground pool will be erected. Use a shovel to shovel sand into the area until it reaches a depth of 3 to 4 inches. Use a hard rake to smooth the sand. Place the 2-by-4 at one end of the sand.

Place one level on the right end of the 2-by-4 and the other level on the left end. With the help of another person, move the board with the levels back and forth over the sand, working your way to the other side of the sand. As you move the board, check the levels to make sure the sand is being leveled.

    Finishing Touches

    • After the sand is level, use a drum roller to pack down the sand. After you use the roller, check the sand using the board and levels again. Add sand where needed if the sand is a little uneven after using the drum roller. Erect the pool over the sand. The legs will now sit flat on the sand.
